Jason Brett spoke with Coindesk reporter Brady Dale to highlight our initiative to inform the DoD on potential usage of Blockchain.
2020 National Defense Authorization Act (NDAA) Mandates DoD Investigate Blockchain
VTF's advocacy resulted in the only blockchain legislation being passed into law in 2019.
“The 2020 NDAA, passed in November 2019, mandates that that DoD study potential uses of blockchain. Our white paper, produced by our think tank with both industry and government input, helps show the DoD and Congress many current use cases for this technology that would be applicable to defense. Ensuring the US does not fall behind our potential adversaries in this technology is key.”
Blockchain in Defense
A consortium of companies, plus those from the government and academia, worked with VTF to produce this paper, which will be released shortly and be available in full on our website. This consortium included Accenture, CGI Federal, Colvin Run, Consensys, Deloitte, IBM, Kontinuum, and SIMBA Chain. Use cases for blockchain included those released to cybersecurity, emergency decision making, defense logistics and supply chain operations, procurement auditing, business process transformation, and the ability to move defense applications of blockchain to the private sector.
Just the Beginning
The Value Technology Foundation will launch working groups to further our combined public-private initiative to help advocate for blockchain's use in defense. To learn more about this initiative, please contact Whitney Kalmbach at firstname.lastname@example.org.
